Myth: Is it the Hoover Dam(ned)

The Hoover Dam (ned)

Myth

During the construction of the Hoover Dam a number of workers where killed and subsequently entombed in the huge boxes of cement that formed the 'building blocks' of construction.

Reality

While it is true that an unacceptably high number of worked died during the construction (114) it is clear from records that not a single body was entombed in the cement. Probably Frank Crowe's only saving grace is that he insisted that if anyone was buried in cement, that their body was carefully removed for burial.
However, given that it was Crowe's incessant corner cutting and total disregard for his workers resulted in such a high death count; it's hardly a recommendation for the "Humanitarian of the Year" award.
