Myth
Is it legal to kill a Scotsman on
the Isle of Man?
Myth
According to popular knowledge it is perfectly legal to kill a Scottish man on the Isle of Man because when Scotland surrendered to England (dates and treaties vary) they did not sign the declaration of peace.
Reality
What utter tosh! For a start you'll have to accept that the Isle of Man was in fact classed as Scottish from 1266 until the mid 14th century when it was succeeded to England. Then it later because part of the British crown on June 21 1765.
But more interestingly, the Isle of Man never DECLARED war on Scotland. This complete urban myth is similar to the "Shooting a Welshman in Chester with a crossbow" (quite why a crossbow defeats us) or the "Stab a Scotsman in York".
Again, all urban myths and all unfounded in current law.
