Myth: Ostriches hide their heads in the ground when scared

Do ostriches hide their heads in the ground when scared?

Myth

Alarmed Ostriches bury their heads in the sand or ground in order to hide from prey. The 'if I can't see them, they can't see me' concept in action.

Reality

It's not going to come as a suprise to anyone that Ostriches do not stick their heads in the sand, or anywhere else for that matter.

Anyone who has seen an alert Ostriche will tell you how it stretches its neck and bobs its head quickly from side to side looking for danger.
