Who's Been Here

Myth: Adolf Hitler was a vegetarian.

Was Adolf Hitler really a vegetarian?

Myth

Its a well spoken fact that while Hitler felt nothing of the death of over 3 million people, he felt somewhat less happy about eating Bambi.

The paradox and double standards being one of the many that are apparent in the Nazi regime.

Reality

Hitler

It is a fantastic paradox, only ruined by the truth. Hitler liked nothing better than ham sausages and other cured meats. In the later part of his life he was put onto a vegetarian diet in to cure him of flatulence (yeah, nothing like beans and Brussel Sprouts to sort that out!) and chronic stomach pains. Its now

His biographers such as Albert Speer, Robert Payne, John Toland all attested to his liking for the taste of furry creatures.

It is thought that the suggestion of Hitler (and Nazis in general as being) as being pro-fauna stems from the attempts to discredit animal rights activists. In other words, the attempt was made to make animal rights akin to anti-human, an argument that is still employed today.
